There are 2 main points we need to consider - wind direction and wind strength.
Wind Direction - the ideal direction would be blowing up the take off slope, directly into our faces as we look out, although we can still take off safely in wind that is partially from the side.
Wind Strength - ideal wind strength for flying a paraglider is between 10 and 25 km/hour. We don't need any wind at all to take off but a little breeze makes things much easier.
Before confirming we will have looked at a number of accurate forecasts, such as those below. On the day of the meeting we will be looking at real time wind information (also below) and first hand accounts from the flying site and other paragliders (our twitter news).
This means that we won't waste your time by arranging your tandem paragliding flight unless we think it's flyable!
Soarable conditions at most sites are from SW to N.
We can fly Lion's Head when there's a strong SE blowing in Cape Town.
In Wilderness just look for a Southerly component to the wind. If you see the S then chances are you'll be able to fly.
We make use of a network of online weather stations, set up by a paraglider pilot, for the paragliding and kite surfing community.
Please check out iWeathar Weather Stations and click on either the Western Cape or Southern Cape.
