First thing to do is call us at Fly2. We will arrange to meet at the venue most suitable for paragliding at that time. (See our where 2 fly section for directions on how to get to the sites) |

Dress appropriately for your flight. Closed shoes that you can run in are essential. Other clothing is weather dependent but we suggest long trousers and a windbreaker. On hot days, please bring sun block, a hat and water! |

We meet at the flying site. If you are flying from Lion's Head you will need to walk with us for 15 to 20 minutes from the meeting site to the paragliding launch site. |

We will brief you on what to do during take off and the flight. We will ask you to sign an indemnity form provided by the South African Hang Gliding and Paragliding Association (SAHPA). This provides you with membership of the Association for the day and 3rd party insurance. We take every effort to make the flight as safe as possible but there is some risk in paragliding, as with most sports, and you need to acknowledge this fact. |

We will make a final decision to fly based on the prevailing conditions.

Your pilot will check the paraglider and make it ready for take off!

You and your pilot will be connected to each other and to the tandem paraglider (a larger than normal paraglider designed for flying 2).

Once conditions are good and after a final check of all straps we will take a few steps forward to pull the glider into the sky and then run in the direction previously indicated by your pilot. The most important thing is not to sit down until your pilot tells you to! We do not jump off the mountain. Before you know it you will be paragliding!

We land gently on our feet; sometimes you may have to run a step or two depending on the wind at landing. Our landings are either on grassy fields, the take off spot or on the beach.

Clothing - both passenger and pilot must wear helmets. This is an obvious safety requirement and is stipulated by SAHPA for all flights in South Africa. We insist on shoes for our passengers to ensure maximum mobility while taking off on rocky ground. Wind breakers etc are suggested to ensure your maximum comfort in the air - it can get cold up there, even on hot days!
Harnesses - the specially designed pilot and passenger harnesses comply with international regulations covering paragliding equipment (the licencing bodies are CENS, AFNOR and DHV).
The passenger harness is fitted with impact protection - usually in the form of a specially designed airbag.
The pilot harness is also fitted with a reserve parachute that is big enough to carry both pilot and passenger safely to the ground in an emergency.
Paraglider - tandem paragliders are designed to carry the pilot and one passenger. They tend to fly faster and be more resistant to collapse than solo paragliders. They are checked before and after each flight for any signs of wear and tear and sent away for porosity checks at regular intervals to ensure they are in perfect working condition.
General safety precautions include thorough pre-flight checks, excellent maintenance of all equipment used and careful pre-launch observation of the local weather conditions and other flying paragliders to evaluate conditions. If in doubt about the conditions we do not fly!
